What We Learned from Participating in a CPP-ACP (Tooth Mousse Plus®) Oral Health Study

At BreezeCare Oral Health, we believe oral-care products should be guided by research, real-world use, and a clear understanding of how people actually build sustainable routines.

That’s why we participated as a recruitment partner in a peer-reviewed Australian research study published in BMC Oral Health (2021). The study explored the experiences of adults who became regular users of GC Tooth Mousse Plus®, a topical product that uses CPP-ACP (Recaldent®) technology.

About the study

The study used qualitative, in-depth interviews with adults in Australia who had been prescribed Tooth Mousse Plus® by dental professionals and who had incorporated it into their routine as regular users. The focus was on lived experience: what oral health felt like before, during, and after adding the product to daily care.

BreezeCare’s role was to assist with recruitment by inviting eligible customers to participate. The paper notes that BreezeCare’s database included customers across different locations and socio-economic backgrounds, and that participants were invited because they were regular buyers of Tooth Mousse Plus® over time.

Why CPP-ACP (Recaldent®) matters

Tooth Mousse Plus® contains a milk-derived protein called RECALDENT® with incorporated fluoride (CPP-ACPF). RECALDENT® (CPP-ACP) is the same core technology used across multiple oral-care formats.

The key point for everyday routines is that different formats deliver CPP-ACP in different ways. Topical application (such as Tooth Mousse Plus®) is typically used as a structured step in a routine. Chewing gum offers a separate format that fits into day-to-day life in a different way, particularly for people looking to layer simple habits into existing routines.

What the study explored (and what it didn’t)

This research was not designed to test clinical outcomes or compare products. Instead, it explored how people experience oral health and routine change over time when they introduce Tooth Mousse Plus® into daily care.

A common pattern in participants’ stories

  • Before: Participants often described a “damaged mouth” with vulnerable teeth, dry mouth, and sensitivity.
  • During: Adding a new step required starting a new routine, persevering daily, and working through practical barriers.
  • After: Participants described reinforcing outcomes that supported ongoing adherence and a sense of greater confidence.

The paper summarises this “before–during–after” journey as a process of habit change supported by education, endorsement from dental professionals, and seeing tangible improvements in everyday comfort.

How this supports our Recaldent gum authority

The most valuable takeaway for us at BreezeCare is that people stick with an oral-care routine when it’s:

  • Easy to understand (why it matters and how to use it)
  • Practical to repeat (it fits into real life)
  • Reinforced over time (people feel motivated to continue)

That’s also how we think about CPP-ACP products more broadly. Tooth Mousse Plus® is a topical format. Recaldent® chewing gum is a different format that can fit into different moments of the day. We don’t treat them as interchangeable — we treat them as options within a broader routine, chosen based on preference and fit.

Transparency and limitations

This was a qualitative study focused on experiences and routines, not a clinical trial designed to measure outcomes. The authors also note limitations around sampling and transferability, which is standard for qualitative research.

Tooth Mousse Plus® (and CPP-ACP / Recaldent® technology) is milk-derived. If you have a milk protein allergy, this technology may not be suitable for you.
